Celebrate Our Centennial

NY Squash was founded more than 100 years ago, back in January of 1924 and originally named the Metropolitan Squash Racquets Association (MSRA). In the years since we have evolved and grown in parallel with the national and international growth of the sport. Today we are the largest—if not most vibrant—squash community in the United States; and the official in the New York City area district of US Squash, the national governing body of squash. What remains from the start is our love of squash and our ongoing efforts to promote and organize the game. With the new dawn of squash entering the Olympics in 2028, we look forward to the next 100 years.

Let's make squash history together!

In celebration of our Centennial we present a series of profiles of legends of NY Squash. We have curated these profiles to include three loose groups: players, coaches and “builders,” who have helped build the institutions that make up the NY Squash community today. Each has made a significant contribution to the NY Squash community. And their accomplishments on and off the court make them NY Squash Legends. This is an ongoing series by noted squash historian Rob Dinerman to be published over the course of our centennial year, 2024.

New York’s many, diverse clubs have each contributed to the history of squash in New York, starting with the three clubs that came together to found NY Squash in 1924: The University Club of New York, The Rockaway Hunting Club, and Montclair Athletic Club, and later that year The Racquet and Tennis Club and The Harvard Club of New York. Club histories are included as we receive them.
