The Racquet and Tennis Club

The Racquet and Tennis Club - often referred to as "The R&T" - is a private athletic and social club located at 370 Park Avenue between 52nd/53rd streets. The club's roots date back to 1876, and the current clubhouse was designed in 1918 by the fabled firm of McKim, Mead and White. The R&T contains four singles squash courts and one doubles squash court, in addition to one racquets court and two court tennis courts. The club has been instrumental in the local, regional and national squash scene, including hosting the first ever collegiate squash match where Harvard defeated Yale 4-1 in February 1923.

Important squash traditions at the R&T include the Bigelow Cup, Silver Racquet Invitational, and Kellner Cup. The Bigelow Cup is an annual squash doubles team tournament between the R&T, Union Club, and University Club that was founded in 1961 and was most recently won by the R&T in 2023. The Silver Racquet Invitational, which began in 1993, is the highlight of the club's winter season and, among other sports, features a high-level squash doubles tournament that was most recently won by Sam Khalifa (R&T) and Elroy Leung (Union Club). And lastly, the Kellner Cup is a biennial top tier professional doubles tournament which began in 2000 and was most recently won by Chris Callis (R&T) and Sam Khalifa (R&T) in April 2024.

The R&T is proud to count 6 of the top 20 Squash Doubles Association ranked players, including the current #1, #2, and #3 and have 780 players who are NY Squash members.
